How to Find the Best Real Estate Agent in Massachusetts

If you’re searching for a home in Massachusetts, you’ve probably also wondered how to find the best real estate agent in Massachusetts.

It’s not always easy.

The field is large and the talent can be slim.  That’s why you really need an agent who is not only knowledgeable, but is also willing to go to bat for you day in and day out.  With that in mind, I’ve created a list of the top three ways to be sure you’re picking the best real estate agent in Massachusetts (And at the bottom of this page I’ve made a special video about what I personally will do for you when we decide to work together!!!).

1. Look Up Reviews

But not only that, see if there’s a way you can actually contact some of the real estate agent’s past clients.  Find out in detail where the real estate agent succeeded or possibly fell short of their obligations.  Whether you’re buying or selling a house, find out what previous properties the agent represented and what they listed and then sold for.  This will give you a sense of their negotiating ability, though it’s not the final word on their ability to do right by their clients.  And if you’re putting your home on the market, see if you can find out how long the homes of the real estate agent’s previous clients stayed on the market.  If there is a trend of homes selling quickly under the real estate agent, that’s a good indication that the agent knows how to market the property.  And if their is a trend of homes selling slowly under the real estate agent, that’s a good sign that you may want to look elsewhere.

2. Ask the Agent About the Neighborhood

For you to find the best real estate agent in Massachusetts, you’re going to need to do some digging.  When you initially connect with the agent, ask them some questions not only about the property that you’re interested in, but also about the neighborhood it’s located in and the surrounding town.  You’ll want an agent who is a local expert because they will not only know the pros and cons of the physical property, but the pros and cons of the location of the property.  Location, location, location.  A thorough knowledge of the neighborhood and town, as well as the physical property, will be a strong indicator of a real estate agent that is a serious student of the field.

3. Find Out How Long the Agent Has Been Licensed

The longer an agent has been licensed, typically the more experienced they are to handle whatever challenges arise during the home-buying or home-selling process.  Typically, they have gained wisdom and become better agents every year they’ve been in service.  I say typically, because it’s not always true.  We all probably know someone who’s been in a given field for a long time (teacher, engineer, musician etc.), but they haven’t necessarily improved over the years.  In the same way, you may find an agent with only a year of experience, but who has GREAT reviews and a PHENOMENAL knowledge of the area and home you’re looking to buy.

Ultimately, it’s in your best interest to consider all three of the ways to be sure you’re picking the best real estate agent in Massachusetts, or anywhere that you’re located for that matter.  However, never underestimate your intuition when speaking with your prospective agent on the phone or in person.  If you decide to move forward with a particular agent, you’ll be working closely and personally together for anywhere from the next several weeks to the next several months.  Choose wisely, and good luck!
